Resort life centres around the Place Centrale and up along Rue de Medran with lively bars and nightclubs as well as some excellent restaurants. Verbier’s clientele is cosmopolitan. It is popular with the Swiss living in Geneva, Montreux and Lausanne as well as skiers from the UK, Scandinavia, Italy and the Netherlands.
Skiing in Verbier
Verbier links into the Four Valleys, Switzerland’s largest ski area and shared with the nearby ski resorts of Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Les Collons. With over 400 kilometres of pistes there is skiing and snowboarding for every level. The Mont Fort glacier is the highest skiable point (3,330 metres): the glacier ensures there is some skiing from early December to the end of April. The off-piste is easily accessed from the lift system and offers some of the most challenging descents in Europe along with varied conditions perfect for the whole family. Access to the skiing is by the Medran gondola in Verbier’s centre or by the Savoleyres gondola at the northern end of the ski resort.
Summer in Verbier
Verbier welcomes more and more summer visitors every year. The Verbier music festival is a popular event attracting international musicians and an international audience. Other summer activities include mountain biking, hiking and rock climbing. During daylight hours you may choose to visit one of the fascinating museums and galleries that are well worth a visit, amongst them the Musée du Vieux-Pays (recreation of traditional dwelling), the Oreiller Forge, the Grinding Mill and Saw Mill and the Alpine Museum.
